Synopsis In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games.

• It does not allow for much reflection or revision. Disadvantages of waterfall model. • A schedule can be set with deadlines for each stage of development and a product can proceed through the development process like a car in a car-wash, and theoretically, be delivered on time. Advantages and disadvantages of concurrent development model in software engineering.

But Katniss has been close to dead before-and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. About the Author Best known for The Hunger Games Trilogy, author, Suzanne Collins, from Hartford, Connecticut has risen to star status in the literary field. Her works have sold more than 87 million copies worldwide. Influenced by her college history teaching father, Suzanne learned about history, and especially war history, at a very early age.

He was always very open to his children about his military career, including his time deployed to Vietnam Nam. She felt that her father had a sort of urgency to teach them, so they spent many family outings at one battlefield or another. Those tours were quite extensive and very comprehensive, giving her a learned sense of the meaning of war. Suzanne began her career after graduation from graduate school at New York University. She started with children's television programs on Nickelodeon and the children's WB.

It was with the WB'S James Proimos, who suggested she write books. Her first attempt was successful in The Underland Chronicles, and then followed by her hugely successful, The Hunger Games. By late spring of 2011, the first in the trilogy was adapted to film. Due to the immense popularity of her books, she was named one of Time Magazine's most influential people in 2010. The list is long and prestigious of the awards given to Suzanne Collins. I pushed back on checking out this book despite it showing up on several must read lists.

Suzanne Collins Facts

Suzanne

I was oft put by the idea of a game where children were forced to kill each other. And that remains disturbing, but once you decide to go for the ride, you really care about the characters - even if they are not your warm and fuzzy high school students.

Excellent book and so glad I have the next one in hand already. Why have they NOT made this into a movie yet? Maybe it is the subject of kids killing each other?
